ReplyDeleteI've really been enjoying your podcast. I just wanted to make a quick comment on MMOs. You were talking about how there is so much grinding. I think this has to do with the balance between people that play non-stop and those that play casually. The people that play very frequently (8 hours a day) are often the loudest to complain when they run out of things to do. This pushes developers to include additional content of some kind. The easiest way to do this is to included repetitive quests. This gives players something to do while not requiring a great deal of design.
ReplyDeleteWhile this solves one issue, it crates another. Those that would be considered casual gamers that do not have the time or inclination to spend hours and hours playing don't appreciate the grinding. They want to experience the fun of the game without having to do all of the intermediate grinding.
I think if an MMO could solve this issue, they would go a long way to changing the genre.
